Goddess of War by adalheidis Goddess of War by adalheidis
BUY ON SOCIETY6

the slavic goddess of war.
She may also have another aspect, that i didn't take into account: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lada_%28…
Only when i was half done with the drawing i read that there probably was no such goddess, and that Gwiazda Poranna / Zorza (Morning Star, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zorya) was the goddess of war, to which the warriors would pray.
Well, I have a different concept for Morning Star, so this stays as Łada.
And please, remember that slavic pantheon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_m… is very complicated, probably each community, if not each Slav, had their own concept of supernatural things. It has been like this for ages and doesn't look like it's going to change :)
I'm sorry, even the full view doesn't allow to see all the details, like the lower belt plates -.-
Most of the patterns used were inspired by the findings from slavic and preslavic graves.

0,13 and 0,25 technical pen on a3 paper, two days :ahoy:

No, chyba wystarczy tego pseudonaukowego bełkotu :P

Rysunek jest świetny. Podziwiam dokładność detali stroju, a i sama koncepcja przednia. :)

thanks, and as i pointed out in the description - it's rather hard to tell with Slavic pantheon :)
She was drawn as Łada, and I decided to keep the name, but I know - and said so - that she wasn't actually the war goddess :) Somewhere it even said, Łada was a male god :D

cheers! :ahoy:

Err no Lada is the goddess of harmony, merriment, youth, love and beauty. Perun is the god of (also) war. But the art is good:D

Sooo many details...but even though Lada is made up, wasn't she always mentioned as goddess of love?
But anyway this is realy wonderful picture (I stil can't belive how many details is there) and you did a good job.
I think it's really sad that our mythology is almost forgoten or has to many christian influence. So I'm even more happy to see picture like this :)

I do believe that this could also be epona, the celtic goddess of war.
Spear is very indicating in such a direction. Hope I do remember it the right way: Epone did have a holy spell that reached 7 times 7 spear-throws from her holy ash-tree in which noone was allowed to raise his weapon....

Very nice work!!!!

I always thought of Epona as lady of the horses, though she probably had many roles :)

Well, she also had the role of goddess of war, of lightning (which in that religion meant that there's been a war- the bigger the more thunder and lightning sent from her bronze-helmet)...

I very do like your works (have been clicking them thru :))...
Reminds me somehow of art nouveau, which I like, too!

ah, well, if you put it that way, then i guess she can be Epona, with the spear and the helmet :D

yeah, it was a bit disappointing to find it out while i was half way done... I am trying to understand the slavic mythology for years now, and in books and in the Internet - everybody has a different concept, guess we won't know for sure until the time machine is invented :D
thnx for the fav too :thanks:

You're welcome ;) Yeah, Slavic mythology is mostly forgotten and lost, since the Slavic people didn't have a developed alphabet until the 8th and 9th century. (or such hasn't yet been decoded or something... Not really informed on this subject) Too bad tho, I assume it was really interesting, maybe even more than Roman/Greek. :)

I did encounter something about Slavs using sort of runes, that were based on the shape of mouth when pronouncing certain vowels, and some attempts to read it, claiming of course to be be completely succesful. I didn't go deeper into this, since it was very wierd to begin with, slavic inscriptions on etruscan helmets from 1st century? Wierd at least...
I am worried if it really wasn't more like every tribe chosing their own main god from the bunch, like that episode in Kiev, when whole Russia swore oath calling on Veles, but the King swore on Perun or smthing like that... sorry for giving such incomplete info, i can find it again if it interests you :)
